Canadian Institutes of Health Research

Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada
NSERC supports groundbreaking research and innovation in natural sciences and engineering to benefit Canada. They partner with universities, businesses, and non-profits, promoting opportunities and removing barriers for researchers. With a focus on discovery, NSERC invests in bold, promising ideas and supports international collaborations to advance science and technology in Canada. They also provide training for future generations of scientists and engineers.
Canada Foundation for Innovation
CFI is a non-profit corporation that invests in research infrastructure at Canadian universities, colleges, research hospitals and non-profit research institutions. It provides cutting-edge facilities, labs, and equipment to support researchers in all disciplines to push frontiers of knowledge and innovation, contributing to a better world.
Killam Laureates
The Killam Trusts are dedicated to building Canada's future through advanced study and providing funding for research excellence. With a mission to support scholars through scholarships, fellowships, prizes, and more, the Trusts have contributed over $1 billion to post-graduate scholars at five Canadian universities. Established in 1965 by Dorothy J. Killam, the Killam Estate provided $125 million in funding for graduate and postgraduate scholarships to recognize research excellence. The Trusts' future focus is on social impact, accessibility, diversity, and supporting dynamic Canadian researchers to make a positive impact on the world.
National Institutes of Health
The NIH is the world's largest public funder of biomedical research, investing over $32 billion annually to improve health and reduce illness and disability. Its mission is to seek knowledge about living systems and apply that knowledge to improve health and reduce illness. The agency aims to foster creative discoveries, improve health, ensure the nation's capability to prevent disease, expand the knowledge base in medical sciences, and promote scientific integrity. The NIH leads and supports research in human diseases, growth and development, environmental contaminants, mental and physical disorders, and information exchange in medicine and health.
Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research
Michael Smith Health Research BC is a health research agency in British Columbia, working to make BC recognized worldwide for its competitive health research system. It was created in 2001 to honor BC's first Nobel Laureate, Dr. Michael Smith, and continues to support emerging scientific talent. The goal is to improve the health of British Columbians, the health system, and the economy.
B.C. Knowledge Development Fund
The B.C. Knowledge Development Fund (BCKDF) provides assistance for the establishment of research infrastructure, such as laboratories and equipment, with the aim of enabling institutions in British Columbia to attract world class researchers, skilled technicians, and research users. By supporting the development of research infrastructure, the BCKDF promotes innovation and facilitates collaboration between institutions and industry within British Columbia.
Howard Hughes Medical Insititute
HHMI is a nonprofit research organization and philanthropy dedicated to advancing the discovery and sharing of scientific knowledge for the benefit of all. They employ scientists, provide grants for research and education, offer educational resources, and share the stories of science with a global audience. HHMI is committed to inspiring and supporting talented scientists, educators, and students to maintain their curiosity, explore complex scientific questions, and work towards making science more inclusive.
